TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Optimisation & continuous improvement
- Optimise maintenance strategies to balance cost, risk, and performance.
- Improve equipment availability and utilisation rates
- Reduce unplanned downtime through predictive and preventive measures
- Enhance production efficiency through reliability improvements
- Identify and drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance equipment reliability, availability, and maintainability. Lead and support the implementation of engineering and operational change initiatives.
- Analyse maintenance and production data to identify trends, inefficiencies, and recurring failures.
- Implement improvement projects using methodologies such as Lean, Six Sigma, and Reliability-Centred Maintenance (RCM).
- Benchmark best practices and introduce innovative solutions to optimise plant performance.
- Facilitate stakeholder buy-in and ensure smooth transition during implementation.
Budget and Cost Control
- Develop and manage maintenance and reliability budgets in line with operational requirements.
- Monitor maintenance expenditure and investigate variances against budget.
- Identify cost-saving opportunities through improved maintenance strategies and reduced equipment downtime.
- Support lifecycle costing and capital planning decisions.
Data Analysis, life cycle management & reliability engineering
- Conduct detailed failure analysis using Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA)
- Analyse historical equipment data to identify reliability trends and failure pattern
- Develop lifecycle strategies from commissioning to decommissioning
- Support equipment selection and design processes to ensure reliability and maintainabilit
- Conduct reliability risk assessments and develop mitigation plans
- Develop and maintain reliability models and reports
- Provide technical recommendations to improve equipment performance.
- Conduct regular audits on maintenance practices and asset performance.
- Ensure compliance with Mine Health and Safety Act (MHSA), OHS Act, and company standards.
- Monitor adherence to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Codes of Practice (COPs).
People & Stakeholder Management
- Lead and mentor maintenance and reliability teams
- Provide technical guidance and training on reliability methodologies
- Manage team performance, development, and succession planning
- Promote a culture of accountability, continuous learning, and safety
- Collaborate with production, engineering, and maintenance teams to align reliability goals.
- Engage with OEMs and suppliers to improve equipment performance.
- Communicate reliability insights and recommendations to management.
- Build strong working relationships across departments
SHERQ Compliance
- Ensure strict adherence to Safety, Health, Environment, Risk, and Quality (SHERQ) standards
- Promote a zero-harm safety culture
- Participate in safety initiatives, risk assessments, and incident investigations
- Ensure all activities comply with legal and company requirements.
Minimum requirements
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: (Qualifications & Experience)
Qualifications
- National Senior Certificate (Grade 12)
- Diploma in Mechanical / Electrical or B Engineering/ B Tech Degree in Mechanical /Electrical (NQF 6 – 7). Post graduate qualification (Advantageous)
- Certificate: GCC (Mines and Works) (Adavantageous)
- Relevant Business Management Qualification, e.g., Management Development Program (MDP) (Advantageous)
· Minimum of 5 five years operational experience in the maintenance of equipment (Mining/ Plant or Industrial environment)
· Minimum of 3 years management experience in asset management and reliability
· Minimum of 2 years operational RCM and RCA facilitation experience
· Minimum of 3 years operational experience within MHSA and the OHS act
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & COMPETENCIES:
