KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide strategic leadership and direction to production teams to achieve planned mining and production targets
- Hold and execute the statutory responsibilities associated with the MHSA Section 3.1(a) legal appointment.
- Support the General Manager in the execution of operational, technical, and strategic responsibilities
- Drive adherence to approved mine plans, schedules, and business objectives.
- Champion continuous improvement initiatives to enhance productivity, operational efficiency, and achievement of business plan targets.
- Ensure full compliance with the Mine Health and Safety Act (MHSA), company policies, and industry best practices
- Identify opportunities to improve operational performance, productivity, and cost efficiency, and provide guidance to site management teams on implementation.
- Review and monitor mining standards, procedures, and operational practices to ensure consistency, compliance, and operational excellence across all sites.
- Provide technical and operational support for projects, studies, mine planning, and feasibility assessments.
- Promote and facilitate the adoption of innovative technologies and systems to improve safety, productivity, and operational performance.
- Serve in critical operational leadership roles as required to ensure business continuity during vacancies or periods of transition
- Drive the availability, reliability, utilisation, and performance of Trackless Mobile Machinery (TMM) and other production-critical equipment to maximise operational output
- Foster a strong safety culture through visible leadership, risk management, and proactive engagement with employees and contractors
- Monitor operational performance through the analysis of key performance indicators (KPIs), implementing corrective actions where necessary to achieve business objectives
- Build and develop high-performing teams through coaching, mentoring, succession planning, and performance management.

Minimum requirements
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS (QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE)
Qualifications and Certifications
· National Senior Certificate (Grade 12).
· Bachelor of Science (BSc), Bachelor of Engineering Technology (B-Tech), or Bachelor of Engineering (BEng) in Mining Engineering (NQF Level 7).
· A postgraduate qualification in Mining Engineering or a related technical discipline (NQF Level 8 or higher) will be advantageous.
· Valid Blasting Certificate or Rock Breaker Certificate.
· Mine Overseer's Certificate of Competency is essential.
· Mine Manager's Certificate of Competency is essential.
· A relevant Business Management qualification, such as a Management Development Programme (MDP) or equivalent leadership qualification, will be advantageous.
Experience Requirements
- A minimum of 3–5 years' experience as a Mine Overseer in underground and/or open pit mining operations.
- At least 3 years' experience in a legally appointed Mine Manager and/or Section Manager role within underground and/or open pit mining environments is essential.
- Previous experience in a Bord and Pillar mining operation will be advantageous.
- Demonstrated experience in Trackless Mobile Machinery (TMM) management, optimisation, and performance improvement.
- Advanced understanding of Time Usage Models (TUMs) and key TMM performance indicators, including equipment availability, utilisation, and productivity metrics.
- Proven ability to lead, manage, and develop multidisciplinary teams in a complex mining environment.
- Strong technical capability and practical experience in influencing mine design and operational strategies through the application of first-principle engineering and mining practices.
