Introduction
Kalagadi Manganese Mine is situated in the town of Hotazel 70km from Kuruman, Northern Cape Province. ROLE DESCRIPTION: Applications are invited from suitably qualified applicants who will be responsible for involving the team leader in proactive planning of daily tasks, as well as correctly marking, charging, connecting, and blasting, in compliance with standard procedure and legal requirements.
Job description

TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensuring the safety of employees under his/her control.
  • Blasting support and cleaning operations.
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards guidelines, policies, and procedures.
  • Control of underground workforce and control of access to and from underground workplaces.
  • Safe declaration and early entry examinations of all areas together with risk assessments prior to any work commences.
  • Daily measuring and plotting of work face that are blasted in your area.
  • Investigating incidents/accidents and property damage.
  • Receiving, monitoring usage and control of explosives
  • Mining according to survey notes.
  • Countersigning checklists of operators to ensure TMM are safe for usage.
  • Blasting and clearance of workplaces as per blasting schedule.
  • Daily planning production for the area of responsibility.
  • Schedule leave of employees as per a leave roster.

Minimum requirements

Qualifications:

  • Grade 12 or NQF 4 equivalent.
  • Blasting Certificate.
  • National Certificate NQF Level 3 – Rock Breaker.

Experience:

  • Extensive working experience in the capacity of a Miner in a board and pillar environment.

Other Requirements:

  • A valid code B/EB driver’s license.
  • Medically fit for duty.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND COMPETENCIES:

  • Good manual dexterity and steady hands, as well as strong hearing and vision.
  • Should be relatively coordinated, in the sense that they should not have any physical impairment that limits control of their limbs or lengthens their reaction time.
