PURPOSE AND ROLE IN THE BUSINESS
To supervise and coordinate the day-to-day maintenance and operations activities of the plant section, ensuring that machinery and equipment are maintained in a safe, reliable, and efficient condition in line with production and safety targets. The incumbent assists and reports to the Foreman
KEY RESULTS AREARS
- Have knowledge and skill in applying leadership techniques to individuals and teams within the work context
- Assist the Foreman with daily inspection checklist for tools, equipment and work areas
- Supervise and lead a team of artisans and general workers in the plant maintenance section.
- Delegate tasks and ensure daily job cards are completed on time and correctly.
- Conduct inspections and basic fault finding on mechanical and electrical plant equipment.
- Ensure planned maintenance is carried out according to the maintenance schedule.
- Assist in the installation, repair, and overhaul of mechanical plant components.
- Monitor equipment performance and report recurring problems to the Foreman.
- Enforce safety procedures and housekeeping standards in the plant.
- Ensure compliance with relevant SOPs and company standards.
- Maintain maintenance records and report on team productivity and downtime causes.
- Provide on-the-job training and mentoring to junior staff.
- Liaise with other departments to minimize production disruptions.
- Communicate operational information and changes to relevant stakeholder to minimize delays
- Be able to perform resource planning and ensure availability thereof
- Ability to conduct a start of shift inspection
- Demonstrate knowledge and skill with regards to plant capacities
- Meet operational targets and objectives to meet
- Propose ideas or practical improvements relevant to tasks. Participate in improvement initiatives
- Comply with quality standards and deliver in a manner that support and meet operational quality standards
- Contribute to team performance
- Be able to ensure that everybody on shift know and understand how to perform their duties
- Demonstrate knowledge and skill with regards to safety principles and practices in the workplace
- Demonstrate knowledge and skill in generic management principles and practices
- Know and understand how to perform each task, task durations and desired output required
- Co-ordinate shift hand over at the beginning of each shift by checking log sheets, physical mining activities, and communicate to relevant subordinates
- Be able to interpret information and to attend to critical activities
- Be able to prioritise tasks and activities
- Demonstrate knowledge and skill in interaction management
Minimum requirements
- National Senior Certificate (Grade 12)
- Boilermaker and/or Electrical Trade test
- Valid Driver’s licence
Experience
- At least, 4 years’ experience as a Qualified Artisan in a mining environment
- Knowledge of plant machinery such as crushers, conveyors, screens, pumps, etc.
- At least 1 year of Supervisory experience
