Introduction
Kalagadi Manganese Mine is situated in the town of Hotazel 70km from Kuruman, Northern Cape Province. ROLE DESCRIPTION: Applications are invited from suitably qualified applicants with a legal appointment as a 2.15.1, who will be reporting to the Mine Overseer. Responsible for safety and health of employees in your section.
Job description

TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Plan activities in accordance with operational and maintenance schedules and allocate resources as required.
  • Responsible for planning, organizing, leading and control of material, equipment, machinery and other resources required to achieve daily and monthly production targets.
  • Communicate service department recommendations to miners and team and ensure compliance thereof.
  • Weekly measurements and plotting of advancing faces and take corrective action to ensure max advance is achieved.
  • Conduct early and late shifts as required by law.
  • Responsible for conducting planned task/job observations.
  • Monitor and schedule the leaves of employees to ensure section is properly staffed.
  • Supervise all mining activities and ensure legal compliance thereof.
  • Perform administrative duties according to legal requirements.
  • Perform accident and incident investigation(s) according to organizational standards.
  • Continuously analyze relevant mining activities to recommend or implement improvements and changes to maximize outputs.
  • Responsible for the application of the Mine, Health & Safety (MHS) Act and Regulations, COPs, standards, and procedures.
  • Perform risk assessments (Activity Based and Mini risk assessment).
  • Ensure that people always wear the correct PPE.
  • Ensure that unsafe areas are barricaded.
  • Takes cognizance of and adhere to Company policies, procedures, and relevant legislation. Manage and report on non-compliance issues.
  • Ensure that all Mining reporting is aligned with standards, guidelines, and schedules.
  • Establish and maintain good working relationships and an effective / sound communication system with the Mining Function.
  • Supervise subordinates in the designated area.

Minimum requirements

  • Grade 12.
  • Blasting Certificate OR National Certificate Rock breaking Underground Hard Rock Level 3.
  • Supervisory Development Program (SDP) / Leadership Development Program (LDP) OR equivalent will be added advantage.

Experience:

  • A minimum of 5 years supervisory experience within a mining environment.
  • Trackless board and pillar mining experience min of 5 years.

 

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • A valid code B/EB driver’s licence.
  • Medically fit for duty.

 

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS & OTHER COMPETENCIES:

  • Computer literacy – MS Office package.
  • Know, understand, and adhere to the relevant regulations, procedures, and standards.
  • Computer Literacy and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ensure that the explosives and accessories at the workplace are received, handled, stored, and issued according to standards and procedures.
  • Have knowledge and skill in co-ordinating and monitoring mining activities to meet relevant targets.
  • Have knowledge and skill in allocating the necessary resources effectively.
  • Conduct detailed planning to meet operational and maintenance targets.
  • Have knowledge and skill in applying the basic generic management principles and leading a team.
