Job description

  • Applications are invited from suitably qualified applicants who will be required to operate at the control room for which he/she has been passed out on in a safe and efficient manner.
  • The successful candidate will report to the Control Room Supervisor.

Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Report system malfunctions immediately and lead communications to advise system users of outages and progress.
  • Compile reports as requested by Supervisor.
  • Accurate recording of standing hours and outage times, escalate anomalies to Supervisor.
  • Maintain and operate the control room systems / functions to quality standards.
  • Monitor the service and portable water supply for underground use.
  • Provide an effective control room operator service to ensure daily production targets are met.
  • Assist with the supervision of the daily activities of the Control Room Assistants.
  • Be prepared to work outside of normal working hours (site specific).
  • Assist with capturing breakdown of machinery and equipment on Maximo and issuing of job cards.
  • Be able to operate the Scada system that is hoisting the ore from underground

Minimum requirements

  • Grade 12 or NQF Level 4 equivalent (With Maths and Science).
  • MS Office Proficient (Word and Excel).
  • Good English verbal and written communication skills.
  • National diploma in metallurgy will be advantageous.

Other Requirements:

  • At least 2 years of experience in trackless underground mining.
  • At least 2 years of experience as a Control Room Assistant.
  • Able to work under pressure.
  • Honesty and integrity.
  • Medically fit for duty.

Technical Competencies:

  • Ability to concentrate for long periods of time.
  • Tolerance for repetition.
  • Ability to function on own and as part of a team.
  • Must be able to work rotational shifts.
  • Be prepared to work on Weekends and public holidays.
